is even smaller where we have a proper lunch and take
a rest. Some time later, when ready, we go on to the

Day 4 -Otachique/Uruachi/La
Finca
|
08:00hrs. Breakfasts, This is the beginning of a
fantastic day, for today we will do what cyclist like
to do best and that is to cycle down hill, we start
at 2400mts. with 27km of mostly down to the old mining
town of Uruachi at 1500mts. here we eat an almost
lunch and who ever is hungry enough can go ahead and
eat his full lunch after which we start a 24km. downhill
in the impressive Oteros Canyon, as soon as we hit
bottom we take a swim in the river and start
to make
camp at 600mts above sea level. La finca is a very
small village or a sort of big ranch, it depends on
how you look at it. is full of orange and guayabos
orchards and the climate of course is tropical, very
nice.
|
Day 5 -La Finca/Sierra
Alta/Rocoroybo |
006:30 hrs. coffee, chocolate, tea, and we leave
as soon as possible, so we do not get caught going
up by the full force of
the sun. Climbing from 600mts
to 2500mts in about 16km of mexican mountain road,
can get intense (if you get tired you can hitch a
ride on the support vehicle) but on the other hand,
one can use this slow pace climb to enjoy the view
of the immense Oteros Canyon, and to watch how little
by little the cardons, brazil trees and pitahyas transform
into madrons and oak trees, to finally turn into white
firs, lumholztiis and Ayachuite pines trees, with
the magpie jays becoming, blue jays of different kinds
as the parrots and macaws transmute into trogons and
tiny warblers or painted red starts, which is to say
the least, amazing! Once on top we really enjoy our
breakfast take a break and go on the the Rocoroyvo
water falls where we eat a well deserved lunch we
continue at 2500mts give and take a little until we
get to La Parida (25 km.) and make camp, dinner and
happy dreams of her Majesty the Sierra Tarahumara.
|
Day 6 -Rocoroybo/San Rafael/Divisadero/Creel |
08:00hrs. Breakfast, and on we go like a ranch horse
smelling his hay or a hound sensing its prey or any
way we are almost there and we feel it. we are rolling
on high mesas as we stop in Monterde a mountain lumber
town to eat lunch and start going a little down when
we hit San Rafael old railway station and on to Divisadero
on the edge of the Copper Canyon. Here we take a view
of the canyon and keep going to Creel where we eat
dinner and sleep in the Cueva del Leon hostel.
|
