South of the town of El Sal
to in Pueblo Nuevo County,
there is a unique forest of several trees of more than
a hundred years of a species Picea chihuahuana martinez.
There is only about two hundred of them and they are
cataloged in SEMARNATs Norm 059 as a species in danger
of extinction.
This area called Santa Barbara has been protected by
initiative of the "ejidatarios" of the land
for several years now, letting the trees grow and protecting
the area as an old growth forest, and excellent and
exciting place.
