This is a fantastic bird watching adventure that takes us on the most beautiful scenic highway in Mexico,  from the  Colonial city of Durango founded in 1563, across  the Sierra Madre Occidental (a continuation of the Rocky Mountains in Mexico) to the Pacific Ocean sea side resort of Mazatlan. In between, we go from 6,090 feet above sea level in Durango to almost 9000 ft asl at our highest point of the route in the mountains and back down to sea level in the little fishing village of Teacapan on the Pacific Coast.

This dramatic change of altitude, gives us a tremendous diversity of ecosystems and there by the possibility of watching a great amount of different bird species, animals, and plant life. From the valleys on the foothills of the Sierra Madre, to the Pine-Oak forests of the Sierra Madre Occidental, on to the dry jungle brush in the Canyons and finally to the Pacific Ocean in the estuary of Teacapan, a small fishing village 80 miles along the coastline South of Mazatlan.
